Abstract

This research paper deals with a study of the mḥ cubit measure through its mention in the Ostraca work diary, which was written in hieratic script, and was found in the tomb of Senenmut TT71. The mḥ measure is one of the important tools in the field of architecture and ancient Egyptian buildings that requires a high level of precision when decorating tombs., which is one of the measures of length used in ancient Egypt, and was used in the Ostraca work diary; To measure the length of the construction work completed daily in the cemetery, including digging, refining, polishing, coloring and decorating the surfaces of the cemetery’s walls.
The cubit measure mḥ was mentioned in the Ostraka tomb of Senenmut TT71 sixteen times in the Ostraka diary of work in the cemetery, and in some detail it was mentioned thirteen times in the Ostraka monitoring the work in the cemetery, while it was mentioned three times in the Ostraka recording the standards of work in the cemetery, and the study also presents the hieratic lines of the Ostraka It contains the cubit measure mḥ, its writing in hieroglyphics,its transliteration, and its translation.
The study aims to introduce the mḥ measure to measure the length of construction work carried out daily in the cemetery by studying the Ostraka, the tools used to determine its length, and the purposes for its use, as well as the materials from which that measure was made and its definition in the ancient Egyptian language, while supporting the research with comparative models of the mḥ cubit measure.
