The Political Dimension in Hassan Yaqoub Al-Ali’s Theater: (The Third) model, An Analytical Study.
The idea of the play “The Third” is based on the theme of justice versus injustice. Through the story of Abu al-Hasan, the poor young man; who suffers from the harshness of life that is controlled by some rich people, with the support of authority of power in the country. This joint authority, which Abu Al-Hassan has always dreamed of fighting, eliminating corruption and corruptors in it, is represented by (Abu Ghaly). He was the fraudulent merchant and the governor was (Ibn Ghanem). The events of the play are divided into three chapters. Starting with showing the forms of injustice upon some poor people, including (Abu Al-Hassan), who only owns a modest coffee shop with a small profit. Despite that, Abu Ghaly stands in his way, trying to seize what he owns. His only strength was his relationship that binds him to the governor of the city. Events develop during the first chapter, when fate wills the fulfilment of Abu al-Hasan’s wish to take over the mandate of Medina, and to spread justice among the people. After getting rid of the injustice inflicted on them. For that, the sultan used the means of disguising himself and going to the streets, hiding along with his minister. In order to find out the transgressions of the oppressor, and to request removal of the governor from his position. Appointing Abu al-Hasan instead for a period of one week. And its change, after he became the ruler of the city, commands and forbids as he pleases, trying by all means to spread complete justice among the people, even if these methods are done in inappropriate manner. Nevertheless, Abi al-Hasan’s great obsession with establishing justice blinded his insight, and made him take hasty decisions such as ;taking out all prisoners and releasing them without exception, arresting merchants and those who control the economy in the city, and addressing the high prices in it, despite the strong objection to his rule. However, he insists on imprisoning everyone who violates his order, even after agreeing all merchants to stand in a single line to confront him and demand that he step down from power. Justifying this, by the fact that the new governor has exaggerated the administration of justice, in a way that has abused and harmed the conduct of commercial operations in the country. So the Sultan and his minister appear at the end of (The third chapter). It begins with holding Abu al-Hasan accountable for his decisions that he took during his reign, and our hero faces this accountability by insisting on his position until the end of the play.
