Abstract

This study discusses the importance of horses for the Arabs in the pre-Islamic period, as they were a key element in their wars and conquests. This importance continued throughout the following eras. Perhaps no other nation has cared for horses as much as the Arabs. Arab tribes took pride in their horses and horsemen, as the abundance of horses and horsemen in a tribe was a sign of its strength and greatness.
The Arab horseman revered his horse and made it a companion, a refuge, a source of wealth, and a protective weapon. The importance of horses was not limited to the Arabs only, but horses have a prestigious place among all peoples and nations. This is why we find that the ancient civilizations looked at horses with reverence, admiration, and respect. Many of them believed that horses bring good and ward off evil. This led to the proliferation of their qualities, names, and appearances. This status that horses enjoyed among peoples and cultures was the result of the role they play in their lives, which led the Arabs to be interested in their lineage and to take pride in them. This was reflected in the poet through his images and imaginations, which we will stop at through these sections: Section One: The Horse, Section Two: The Horse among the Arabs, Section Three: Patterns of Horse Representation.
