The History of Kuwait between Local Sources and British Documents: Sheikh Salem Mubarak Al-Sabah as a Model (1917-1921 AD).
This study address’s the issue of historical narrative of the ninth ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Sālim Al-Mubārak Al- Ṣabāḥ (1917-1921), in an attempt to present the true aspect of his reign and understand the traits of The Sheikh, and interpret the impact on the decisions and positions he took regarding the events that occurred during his reign. This study attempts to identify the conflicts that occurred between him and the people of the emirate, Britain, and neighboring powers. To determine their reflection and influence on the situation of the emirate and the chances of his son, Sheikh ‘Abdullah, assuming the rule of the emirate, and their contribution to the emergence of the Consultative Council in 1921. The study relied on an inductive analytical approach based on collecting information from British documents, in addition to what was mentioned in local sources, and comparing them to extract the actual event that corresponds to the historical narrative. To reveal the lack of clarity regarding Sheikh Sālim Al-Mubarāk's ruling style in local sources. In addition, it presents the real aspect that corresponds to the historical narrative, which contributed significantly to shaping the political future of Kuwait, especially after Sheikh Sālim Al-Mubārak's death in 1921.
