Digital Health Discourse and the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population's Facebook Page as an Example

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the discourse of digital health on electronic platforms during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, by applying to the page of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population on Facebook, and used the theory of the networked society of Manuel Castells in addition to the theories of globalization to understand and explain the subject of the research, and adopted in its strategy The methodology is based on the method of discourse analysis, and the study reached several results, the most prominent of which are:The Egyptian Ministry of Health's launch of official electronic platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to enhancing communication with the public and providing reliable and diverse health content;The topics covered in the digital health discourse varied, such as awareness and training for medical teams, combating bullying of Covid-19 sufferers, attention to women's health, child health, the social responsibility of individuals, the private sector and civil society towards the Covid-19 crisis, and the discourse of solidarity with the countries of the world, reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of the desired goals and objectives; Digital health discourse uses multiple methods to influence the digital consumer, such as using celebrities and influencers, relying on digital arts, religious discourse, countering rumors with accurate and documented information, and supporting medical teams in their fight against the Covid-19 virus, which contributed to increasing health awareness among the public on the Internet. These findings highlight the role of digital health discourse in promoting public health and supporting society during global health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
