Abstract

In fact, certain metaphorical aspects found in literary works we can easily conceive, because they attached to our repeated, familiar and habitual experiences. But there are other implicit ones which deliver a figurative meaning starting from the literal sense, that is to say, a meaning, its interpretation is linked to the imagination of the reader, which is, of course, linked to his faculty cognitive. Through this article, we interested in studying the metaphorical uses of certain statements in the novel La Petite menteuse by Pascal Robert-Diard. We do not attempt to treat metaphor only semantically, but our study particularly examines metaphor from a cognitive point of view. This study then falls within the framework of cognitive linguistics, by applying the theory of conceptual metaphor developed by Lakoff and Johnson. This study found that unconventional conceptual metaphor arouses reader’s imagination, whereby, they can experience and imagine the action.  Furthermore, metaphor assumes polysemy and generic isotopia , according to which the reader can connect the eidetic scheme of figurative meanings of the same metaphorical lexemes. Finally, it is a mark of enunciative subjectivity.
