Abstract

In “The Map and the Territory,” author Michel Houellebecq deploys a language and literary style that shapes the reading experience in an immersive and deeply thoughtful way. His use of language, both precise and poetic, captivates the reader and broadens the scope of the themes addressed, thus offering a profound reflection on the nature of art, society and existence.
The study of language and style in this novel reveals Michel Houellebecq's exceptional mastery in the art of narration and literary construction. His detailed use of language, combined with a realistic and incisive style, creates a captivating fictional world, where themes of fame, artistic creation and the search for meaning are vividly brought to life. The study of hypertextuality reveals how Houellebecq uses intertextual references, non-linear narrative structures and recurring themes to enrich his story.
The novelty in the study of language and style in our novel lies in the analysis of how Houellebecq uses language and style to reflect the dynamics of contemporary society. Ultimately, the study of language and style in this novel reveals Houellebecq's ability to manipulate words to arouse emotions, provoke questions and offer a singular vision of our contemporary world, making this novel a literary work unavoidable.
